Tom Callemin (born 1991, Ostend) investigates what photography reveals—and what it conceals. His work questions our reflex to find meaning in what we see, a habit that has long shaped our sense of identity. In carefully staged photographs, featuring handmade sets, sculptures, and close collaboration with models, he encourages viewers to question their own perception. In an age of AI, filters, and digital editing, Callemin returns to the photo studio, where he uses materials like clay and plaster to demonstrate how deceptive our vision can be. Together with his models, he explores how the camera reveals—or conceals—the body. The result: a series that challenges our way of seeing and believing.
Double Reality is the culmination of his six-year doctoral research, with an exhibition at Abby Kortrijk from April 3rd to August 16th, 2026.
