Stephan Vanfleteren: Atelier
Over the past twelve years, Belgian photographer Stephan Vanfleteren (b. 1969) has taken very intense photographs in his daylight studio at home. Atelier is the collection of that work. Vanfleteren searches for beauty and meaning in both daylight and artificial light. Gray theater screens are always present as a constantly recurring background. The photographer embraces famous personalities and anonymous people. He shows the face of an old fisherman and inspects both Nick Cave’s hand and a bottle found on the beach. He adores his own growing children and passionate old artists. He looks at the stiffened corpse of a kingfisher and the body of an elastic dancer, or he watches the slowly moving sunlight in his studio.
