In the spring of 2024, the BAM (Museum of Fine Arts of Mons), with the support of the Musée Rodin, will dedicate an exhibition to the French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). The exhibition provides a new interpretation of his work from the point of view of Belgium, a fertile soil that has allowed his art to flourish. The exhibition is curated by Antoinette Le Normand-Romain, general director of the Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA), and Christina Buley-Uribe, art historian.

The exhibition shows sixty sculptures and an equal number of drawings, paintings and engravings. The works, mainly from the Musée Rodin and other international institutions, but also from private collections, will be compared in a new dialogue with those of the artists who influenced Rodin during his stay in Belgium. We are talking about the artists of the Renaissance, and in particular Michelangelo and Rubens.

With numerous new discoveries and unique connections, the exhibition in Mons renews the approach to the groundbreaking exhibitions Vers L’Age d’Airain (To the Bronze Age) and Rodin et la Belgique (Rodin and Belgium), which were held in 1997 respectively at the Musée Rodin in Paris and the Palais des Beaux-Arts (Palace of Fine Arts) in Charleroi. Also featuring contemporary interventions by Belgian sculptor Berlinde De Bruyckere. IN DUTCH!
