The New National Gallery, built between 1965 and 1968, is the only building designed by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Germany after the Second World War. With its steel roof over the glazed exhibition hall and its reduced design language, it is considered an icon of modernism and the legacy of a visionary master builder. After the renovation by David Chipperfield Architects, the Neue Nationalgalerie will open in new splendor in 2021. In numerous specialist articles and large-format photographs, the volume focuses on the architecture of the museum in three thematic groups: the historical construction, the basic renovation and the refurbished building. Detail and close-up shots sharpen the eye for the unique architecture, which was designed by Mies van der Rohe down to the smallest detail.
