Belgian illustrator Martha Verschaffel made her debut in 2015 with the album Lily at publisher Bries. Since then she has drawn illustrations and short stories that have appeared in limited editions in Rekto/Verso, Le Vif, Stripgids and self-published booklets. Usually she starts from dreams and nightmares for her more visual stories. With Passages she makes a second album of size, no less than 240 pages in two types of grey.

“The table is set, the coffee is ready. Two girls climb a tree, higher and higher, left or right. A woman is trying to find her way in a deserted landscape. One more try. In Passages ‘time’ runs and “making choices” as two red threads running through four storylines. The storylines also seem intertwined, but is this the case? Or is Verschaffel playing with the expectations of the reader who sees a piece of a four-part puzzle in each storyline?”IN DUTCH!
