Markus Raetz (1941–2020) is the Swiss artist of metamorphosis and the change of perspective. Every material – dried eucalyptus leaves, wires, wood, perfectly crafted anthropomorphic stones, watercolor paint, pencil lines – is used consciously and checked for its expressiveness. Raetz was a tireless drawing machine. He always had a sketchbook on hand that served as an illustrated diary of his dreams and studies.
For the artist, drawing was always the first step in the creation of all his works, including sculptures.
