In 1973, after transforming what felt like an ambitious walking plan into experienced reality, Hamilton vowed to only make art about the experience of walking. His practice has challenged the assumption that walking is a form of sculpture’ the artist noting that at the completion of a walk he invariably has nothing to show for his troubles other than euphoria. As this retrospective exhibition catalogue testifies, the artist has undertaken art projects extensively throughout Europe, but also in South and North America, along with Japan and in Central Asia. Designed by the artist and extensively illustrated with full page images, the catalogue includes self-made notes and photographs which capture moments along his sometimes elaborate walks.
