Els Martens (b. 1978) is a visual artist and an art teacher, working and living in Belgium.
The starting point for her photography is the landscape as a physical, mental and social space and the sensitive relationship between these aspects. Important themes for her are the coexistence between nomadic and sedentary life, the interaction between the moment and duration, the abstract and the concrete, the material and the immaterial, the linear and the cyclical and the reflection on separated things as part of constellations.

The series of images in this photo book, carrying the enigmatic title in to me see in to me sea, are built around the juxtaposition of a local night-club and a polar day, thus rendering human rites of passage against the backdrop of more-than-human processes. Different locations, colours and shapes flow into one another and become translucent layers in an emerging mental landscape. A text by Alicja Melzacka accompanies the book on separate insert.
