De Collectie Dhondt-Dhaenens: Een voorstelling is the new collection catalogue of the Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens and showcases the 130 works of art that were donated by Jules and Irma Dhondt-Dhaenens to the self-founded foundation, and by extension to the entire Flemish Community.
The catalogue is conceived around a photographic concept that reveals the physical handling of the collection. The book becomes a theatre performance with paintings, drawings and sculptures, which are used as actors in changing stage settings. Clusters of works are assembled, laid out on the museum floor and photographed.
The extras holding and moving the works participate in the scene performance and are included in the photographic recording.
Besides the shots of the clusters, some 25 top works are reproduced full-page in a separate section. Here, as it were, the main actors are once more individually highlighted.
The catalogue is a dynamic ‘viewing book’ in which the reader gains insight into the workings behind the museum screens. Moreover, the book forms an index in which each work is listed and provided with a general basic registration.
Finally, the images are supplemented by texts by external voices who will briefly explain their personal experiences with the museum and interpretations of its historical heritage.
