Artist Salvador Dalí (1904 -1989) thought big and turned his life into a true spectacle. He explored the boundaries of art like no other. Friend and photographer Robert Descharnes (1926 – 2014) photographed Salvador Dalí up close for decades. The book accompanying the exhibition of the same name in Het Noordbrabants Museum shows a striking selection from the period 1955-1985.
His photos give us a glimpse into the personal life of the world-famous artist. We see Dalí in and around his special house in Port Lligat and on the coast near Cadaqués in Catalonia. The photos show him in his familiar living environment: kissing his wife Gala, during boat trips with friends and reading on the beach. But we also encounter a posing character and the artist absorbed in his creative process. With a selection of no fewer than 125 photographs by Robert Descharnes and two essays that provide context, this book presents an intimate and telling portrait of the extraordinary Salvador Dalí.
