Shadow and Light describes and illustrates the realization of a crematorium for the Leuven region, a project in collaboration with rcrarquitectes. The building is designed as a sarcophagus, based on Etruscan tuff tombs. Texts by Koen Van Synghel and photographs by renowned photographers such as Hisao Suzuki, Marie-Francoise Plissart, and Harry Gruyaert describe and interpret the sacred space, the natural play of light, the reduced materiality, and the building’s integration into the landscape. This small but precious book also includes a contribution by artist Philip Van Isacker on the site-specific integration of his work into the building.
