Published on the occasion of the exhibition cortier-gent-plus-kern in the Roger Raveel Museum in Machelen-aan-de-Leie, this book offers insight into the life and work of the Belgian painter Amédée Cortier (1921-1976), at the through individual and group exhibitions in his native city of Ghent, from his training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts until his untimely death in 1976. Attention is also paid to several large-scale presentations of Cortier’s paintings in Dutch institutions in the 1970s, in which the Ghent Gallery Plus-Kern played a decisive role. In addition to an in-depth essay and an extensive chronology about the artist’s life and work, the book contains short contributions about exhibition spaces in Ghent where he has shown work. The book is illustrated with a wide selection of never-before-published archival material, such as rare images of Cortier’s studio. Finally, the book contains a transcription of a recently discovered interview with the artist from 1972-1973. IN DUTCH!
