The Belgian artist and illustrator Benoît van Innis (1960–2024) created countless drawings and cartoons that appeared in European and American magazines, including *The New Yorker*. From the late 1990s onwards, he increasingly focused on painting and architecture, becoming involved in various projects where art and the built environment converged.
The book *Benoît: Kunstenaar in Architectuur* (Benoît: Artist in Architecture) is the first publication to highlight the artist’s collaborations with Belgian, Swiss, and British design firms—including De Smet Vermeulen, EM2N, jo taillieu architecten / advvt, Kraaijvanger Architects, Marie-José Van Hee, Robbrecht en Daem, noAarchitecten, and Sergison Bates architects. The publication offers insight into his creative dialogue with architects and outlines the emergence of a shared, new authorship arising from the interaction between art and architecture.
Organized into four thematic chapters—titled Table, Room, Landscape, and City—the book presents ten of Benoît’s spatial works in depth, each accompanied by a descriptive text. Additional essays shed light on Benoît’s working methods and craftsmanship. The book concludes with a fully illustrated catalogue of his complete body of work in the field of art in architecture.
