This book has had an incredible influence on the modernist architecture of the late twentieth century and early twenty-first century. We sold so many copies of it in that time and discovered one again in our archives!

Five Houses illustrates a series of residential projects in drawings, models and photograps. More important, it documents Ames’ exploration of ‘Modern and Pre-Modern Space’ through the use of rotation, superimposition, and poche. These plan devices result in an architecture of transparency and overlap that is complex and rich without being purely formal. Ames’ colorful renderings are known for their beauty and wit.
