Major exhibition in the Kunstmuseum Den Haag (october 2022) about the life and work of the artist couple Anni and Josef Albers. After their education at the Bauhaus in Germany, they become pioneers of modernism in the United States. Josef Albers’ inexhaustible experiment with color and form leads to his famous series Homage to the Square, while Anni Albers is considered one of the founders of modern textile art. On the basis of more than 200 works, consisting of paintings, textiles, graphics, sculpture, furniture and jewellery, Kunstmuseum Den Haag demonstrates how a shared artistic vision and corresponding sources of inspiration in the hands of Anni and Josef Albers resulted in two completely different, but equally interesting works. The exhibition and publication are realized in close collaboration with The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. Both Nicholas Fox Weber, director of the Foundation, and curator Willem van Roij contribute to the catalogue. The publication also contains articles by Frouke van Dijke and Caro Verbeek, curators of Kunstmuseum Den Haag. The richly illustrated book offers a clear introduction to the life and work of Anni and Josef Albers, and elaborates on the sources of inspiration they share, such as music and pre-Columbian culture.
