Anne Bonnet (1908–1960) finally gets the attention she deserves with this book. The still relatively unknown Belgian artist was one of the founders of the artists’ association De Jonge Belgische Schilderkunst and was a member of the Kunst van Heden group. She personifies an essential transition in modern art: that from figuration to abstraction. Initially, Bonnet painted in an animist style – in opposition to the emerging surrealism – but after 1950 she stripped her work of a certain sentimentalism and developed an extremely personal form of abstract painting. Bonnet was an avid traveler and the influence of her many expeditions is felt in her art, both in her composition and in her color palette.
In this book, the first monograph dedicated to Anne Bonnet, Marcel Daloze, curator of the Marthe Donas Museum in Ittre, takes the reader on a fascinating journey through Bonnet’s pictorial universe. With over 200 color reproductions and an excellently documented text, this publication offers a fascinating overview of the life and work of an artist who died too early.IN FRENCH!
