Untold Stories is the continuation of the exhibition of the same name, which was held at the Design Museum Brussels until April 13, 2025. For the first time, it brought together the works of over 50 female designers and creators active in Belgium between 1880 and 1980.

Based on recent research, the Design Museum Brussels presented works from various disciplines, including applied and graphic arts, as well as product and interior design. It is clear that the mechanisms of patriarchy have continuously shaped the history of design, resulting in the exclusion or invisibilization of women’s work in collections, archives, and textbooks. Among the women represented in the book, famous names coexist with anonymous figures who worked in the shadows of industrial, domestic, or colonial contexts.

Based on a thematic approach, the book Untold Stories – Designers Femmes en Belgique – Vrouwelijke Ontwerpers in België – Women Designers in Belgium illustrates the collaborations, networks, and material culture that underpin women’s productions, rather than focusing on individual “pioneers.”

The various creations come from over 40 public and private collections, many of which have never been displayed before. The book highlights a wide variety of objects through archival images, packshots, and exhibition photographs, shedding light on the creativity and innovation of women in the field of applied arts, often overlooked and undervalued.
