Perhaps best known for his vast, monochromatic paintings of the 1940s and 50s, Barnett Newman’s prints are part of his late works and provide interesting insights into his art. From the early expressive black and white lithographs of 1961, to the symmetrical etchings of 1969, Newman’s artistic language can be studied in a closer and more intimate way than in his paintings. Newman’s prints were of great influence for artists of the next generation such as Donal Judd and Brice Marden.
