Raul José Hestnes Ferreira (1931-2018) was a Portuguese architect. He was the son of the writer José Gomes Ferreira. He studied at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto and the Escola Superior de Belas-Artes de Lisboa. After graduating in 1961, he studied at Yale University, University of Pennsylvania and the Helsinki School on a scholarship from the Gulbenkian Foundation. In Philadelphia he worked for Louis Kahn from 1961 to 1963.

In addition to his architectural work, he taught at the architecture department of ESBAL (1970-1972), at the architecture course of the Arquitetura da Cooperativa Árvore do Porto (1986-1988) and was a full professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the university from 1991 to 2003 Coimbra and at the ISCTE from 2001 to 2003. From 2010 until his death he taught as a professor at the Institute of Architecture at the Universidade Lusófona.

He received the Prémio Valmor de Arquitetura in 2002 for his design of the ISCTE building of the ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa in Lisbon.
