Olivier Bekaert (Ghent, 1973) is a Belgian photographer who has been observing the world through his lens for more than two decades. His photography is characterised by intuition, a keen sense of the unexpected, and a particular attention to the small moments that unfold in everyday life.

Travel is an essential part of his photographic practice. From the streets of Ghent to distant destinations, Bekaert does not search for the perfect image, but for that one moment when light, surroundings and people unexpectedly come together. He works primarily with analogue photography, making looking and photographing a conscious and patient process.

Chance plays an important role in his images. A chance encounter, an unusual posture, a play of shadows or a detail that might easily escape attention can become the starting point for a photograph. His camera records not only what he sees, but also the way in which he looks at the world.

Seeing Things brings this way of looking together. The book is a collection of observations, encounters and moments discovered along the way. The images do not ask for an explanation, but for attention. They invite the viewer to slow down for a moment and look again at the ordinary, the accidental and the unexpected.
