Du Douanier Rousseau à Séraphine: Les grand maitres naïfs (Musée Maillol Paris)
Jeanne-Bathilde Lacourt, Àlex Susanna
Culturespaces & Gallimard, 2019
The official catalog exhibition “From the Douanier Rousseau to SéraphineThe Great Naïve Masters”
Nearly fifty years after the exhibition “the wonderful world of the Naive”, organized by Dina Vierny in her gallery rue Jacob, Culturespaces and the Maillol museum once again bring together works rarely shown to the public since. This exhibition presents the fascinating, unusual and inexhaustible world of the so-called “naïve” artists or, to use the term of one of their fervent defenders, the collector and art critic Wilhelm Uhde (1874-1947), ” modern primitfs “.
This exhibition catalog is based on the famous works of Douanier Rousseau and Séraphine Louis but also highlights the painters sometimes forgotten, such as Louis Vivin, André Bauchant, Camille Bombois, Rene Rimbert, Jean Eve, Dominique Peyronnet or Ferdinand Desnos.
