Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain, 2021
In spring 2021, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain will present an exhibition dedicated to Damien Hirst’s latest series of paintings, Cherry Blossoms.
Begun in 2018, Cherry Blossoms follows in the footsteps of many of the artist’s other series composed of coloured dots, such as Spot Paintings (1986-2011), Visual Candy (1993-1995), Colour Spaces Paintings (2016) and Veil Paintings (2017). Both a diversion from and a tribute to the pictorial art of the 19th and 20th centuries, it also marks the artist’s return to the studio and explores, still in a conceptual approach, the question of beauty in painting, colour and excess.
