Lubaina Himid: Predicting History: Testing Translation (Venice Biennale)

This book showcases the large-scale paintings and installations with which Turner Prize winner Lubaina Himid will represent Great Britain at the British Pavilion in Venice in 2026.

 Lubaina Himid is an influential British artist, curator, and academic known for her pioneering role in the 1980s British Black Arts Movement. In her paintings, prints and installations. Born in Zanzibar in 1954, she focuses on uncovering marginalized, silenced Black histories and centering African creativity in Western art. For the British Pavilion in Venice, she has created large-scale, multi-panel paintings in surreal and magical settings in Himid’s characteristically vivid colour palette.
