Tony Cragg: Stacks (Lisson Gallery)

Jon Wood, introduction Nicholas Logsdail

Tony Cragg Foundation, Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden & Lisson Gallery, 2020

Stacking as sculptural procedure across five decades of Cragg’s art.

This career-spanning publication focuses on the history of Tony Cragg’s (born 1949) Stack works that began in the late 1960s, when, as a student, he began piling up miscellaneous and recycled detritus from the studio in order to create large rectilinear sculptures that refuted the usual clean lines of minimalism.

Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden is a well-known and popular sculpture park in Wuppertal. It was set up as a private museum in 2008 by British sculptor Tony Cragg. The artist has lived in the city since the 1970s and the sculpture park is managed by the Cragg Foundation.
