Elmgreen & Dragset. Trilogy
Peter Weibel, Andreas F. Beitin
Thames & Hudson, London, 2011
Trilogy is the most comprehensive monograph on the Scandinavian artist duo Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset to date. Their trilogy of projects “Celebrity – The One & the Many” (ZKM Karlsruhe, 2010-11), “The Welfare Show” (Bergen Kunsthall; BAWAG Foundation, Vienna; Serpentine Gallery, London; Power Plant, Toronto, 2005-07) and “The Collectors” (Biennale di Venezia, 2009) are published here in detail for the first time in numerous, full-page colour illustrations.
“Trilogy” is not a catalogue, it’s an extensive reader on current social and art-related issues, prompted by Elmgreen & Dragset’s work, but going way beyond a mere documentation of their installations. A multitude of essays tackle and comment on the current phenomenon of celebrity culture, the development of the welfare state and the role of self-portrayal in art as well as the critical debate around its collection and presentation.
