The monumental issue celebrates 25 years of creation by inviting back more than 30 previous curators, including Victor & Rolf, Chitose Abe, and Simone Rocha. Rather than rehashing the past archives, this special edition is envisioned within the frame of a “magazine” and what that word means – a gathering of ideas and images, yet with a contemporary lens; something that at once feels timeless but timely. Some curators looked at their own past issue for inspiration, responding to their previous work now. Others chose to commission new stories to expand on previous narratives. And many have since expanded their artistic practice from fashion to other forms of creation.
Having been initiated by Walter Van Beirendock, A Magazine Curated By could be considered the most intimate publication any designer has a chance to create — it is by a designer for their community of lovers of culture, namely fashion. Starting in 2000 initially as N°A, B, C, D and E Magazines before relaunching in 2004 under our current title, A Magazine Curated By, this publication has been a vessel for designers’ visions. Through our pages, we help designers amplify their voices, guiding their creative narratives.
