This issue focuses on the Belgian practice architecten de vylder vinck taillieu, based in Ghent. Curated by guest editors Seng Kuan and Angela Pang, it introduces 17 of their works, mostly recent.
Architecten de vylder vinck taillieu share their united view on what archtecture can possibly be. Officially founded in 2009, but already conceived years before, the point of departure for the practice of a dvvt is to embrace 'making' in its broadest sense. It is only through an understanding of how to build something that architecture can play its critical potential. As a response to what is expected of architecture today, a dvvt instead focuses on the construction of a banal and everyday reality, in which it finds opportunities to greatly surpass that which is expected.
The practice encompasses projects ranging from small-scale private houses to large-scale housing developments, from cultural institutions to care facilities for young and old, from office spaces to furniture.
