MAKING SPACE; a book about creating a spatial experience by Studio Modijefsky, an interior architecture studio in Amsterdam, responsible for interiors of bars, restaurants and hotels, such as: Foodhallen Den Haag, ‘t Blauwe Theehuis, CityHub Rotterdam, Bar Botanique, Karavaan and Kanarie Club.

MAKING SPACE provides a twofold insight into Studio Modijefsky: the studio’s design philosophy followed by the process of creating the physical interior and the life that begins when these interiors are put into use.

The first part shows the design process, in which it goes deeper into the working method behind each design, concept development and design methodology, followed by the manufacturing process; images of workshops and the realization of the designs.

In part two, the dialogue between the designed places and everything that happens in them is explored. Tantalizing documentary photo series of some thirty interior projects by photographer Maeve Stam. With her images she captures the atmosphere of a specific setting, where the environment and the people, the objects and the energy are all part of the composition.
