The Riverside Tower is one of three large residential towers on Antwerp’s left bank, designed by Léon Stynen and Paul De Meyer. This year the RIVERSIDE TOWER by Stijnen & De Meyer is half a century old! In 1972, the residents moved in and in the spring of 1973 architect Paul De Meyer and his family moved from Lier, a small town, to Antwerp’s Linkeroever. On top of the tower is a beautiful penthouse, built by De Meyer for himself and recently renovated by Glenn Sestig. Until his death in 2011, De Meyer’s exceptional attic apartment was never published.
Fifty years of “Riverside Tower” is the opportunity to trace its genesis with never-before-published documents, both drawings and photographs.
Two visual essays complete Dubois’ research. In 2015 Filip Dujardin photographed the impressive roof apartment and was able to capture the original condition for the first and last time in unique shots. In the meantime, this penthouse has been renovated in an exemplary manner by Glenn Sestig Architects for a new owner. The roof garden was restored by Wirtz International Landscape Architects. The second visual essay, with photos by Jean-Pierre Gabriel, lets you look inside the ‘most beautiful penthouse in Antwerp’ and enjoy the renovated roof garden.
