Cristóbal Balenciaga (1895-1972) was considered ‘le maître’ among the couturiers. “If haute couture is an orchestra, Balenciaga is the conductor and the rest of us are just musicians following the master’s directions,” Christian Dior once said. The Spanish fashion designer was known as a strict couturier who regarded his work as his religion. His sculptural and complex forms came out best in one of his favorite colors: black. This book is a tribute to his oeuvre in this colour. More than 100 masterpieces from the collections of Palais Galliera and Maison Balenciaga are included in the book. With the exhibition in the Kunstmuseum Den Haag it is the first time that such a large selection of Balenciaga’s works can be seen in the Netherlands. IN DUTCH!
