Philip lives and works with books; his library serves as a sort of associative think-tank. Author Johan Pas used Philip's collection of books as 'pointers' when writing his monograph. Philip chose the book of artist Cy Twombly's photographs because these house and studio pictures provide a more intimate view of his plastic work. Francis Alÿs is one of the few contemporary artists Philip is interested in; generally speaking, he prefers the work of older artists, like Brancusi's sculptures and Alvaro Bravo's photographs. But he did want to recommend a book by Dirk Braeckman, a photographer he has an affinity with. August 2009 |
