Elsemieke Scholte

Elsemieke is artistic coordinator of 'detheatermaker', a workspace for young theatre-makers subsidized by the Flemish Community, which works with Monty, deSingel, Troubleyn, Aesthesis and Advanced Performance Training (PoPoK). She chooses and supervises the artistic projects participants work on during their spell with 'detheatermaker' before presenting them to the public.
She herself studied theatre, visual art and music and is still involved in all these fields. The books she chooses are about art, photography and architecture and private and professional interests spill over into one another: "What is for me is also for my work", she says. Elsemieke is seen in the photograph with a book about Annie Leibovitz, a photographer she first came across in magazines and books by Susan Sontag. This publication really appeals to her because of the vitality it exudes.
