Jan Vanriet (°1948) is one of Belgium's most influential artists. He exhibited at the Biennials and at many other, meaningful art manifestations. His versatility shows in monumental murals and in beautiful drawings for literary texts and essays. According to Belgian poet Stefan Hertmans, Vanriet is a builder of an oeuvre, 'a semiotician with paint', and to Cees Nooteboom he is 'the seismograph of the secret, an instrument that writes with beautiful unrest'.
