'The Thrill of it All' is the title of the screwball comedy (with Doris Day in the lead - filmed in 1963), which served as the inspiration for Karin Hanssen's work. After watching this film in 1994, Hanssen decided to focus her work on the theme of social determinism and to use flashback as a device.

The artist has made a significant selection of her paintings, as a result of which the story of Hanssen's body of work is visually narrated. Next to this, her work has been placed in a larger historic, national and international frame. The reader / onlooker gains a deeper insight in the layered nature of Hanssen's work thanks to the texts of three renowned art critics.
