Cum*: An Orderly Fashion

Cum*

CUM* is a collective of three, created in 2002 based in Ghent, Belgium. Since the beginning, the essence of their work has relied on the fact that they, as three like-minded friends, love working together in creating new things. They find their inspirations in things that are projected onto them by all kinds of media, as well as by their personal fantasies and especially their three absurd senses of humor.

Internet has a long-hidden world of sexuality unlocked. Or you might even say: fully opened. We now have access to private pictures and obscenity of many perfectly strangers from around the world. Perversions are no longer shocking, but rather regarded as funny. Are we changed because of an endless stream of banalities? Don't we see the flat and vulgar anymore? Here confronts Cum* us with. They enhance these aspects and literally hurl it in our face. It is impossible to ignore. However, this work didn't originate from the need to shock. It is born out of pure curiosity: look what kind of reactions you can bring about by taken violence and sex from their flat beaten context of internet-porno and present it pontifical in galleries, or in posters on the street. An impulsive reaction to an increasingly larger phenomenon.

Cum* makes drawings, writes texts and re-use pictures from the internet to paint or screen print on all surfaces. Their topics are often related to the current youth culture. A lot of violence, a lot of sex and little depth. These three themes frequently appear ironic. Their work is very direct and sincere. Impulsive, but not naive.
