Flattness Folded
A Collection of 23 Contemporary Garments
Miranda Tsui
Miranda Tsui (Tsui Ngai) received her Master of Arts degree in Fashion Womenswear from the Royal College of Art, London, and started her fashion career in
Italy. Tsui taught fashion design at Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where she developed an interest in the issues of cultural identity and sustainability. In 2002, Tsui co-founded Habitus, a design space in Hong Kong for the promotion of contemporary Chinese design. Tsui collects Chinese antiquities and is passionate about the cultivation of traditional material cult
Conscious of the long tradition of Chinese tailoring, the 23 contemporary patterns gathered here find a suitable balance between tradition and modern living. These designs, created using two-dimensional shaping and cutting, take on a whole different shape when worn by the owner. Minimally and clearly laid out, this appealing publication clearly presents each of the designs and their relevant measurements. In addition, each item of clothing is modelled by a collection of regular people, who present the pieces in a natural and casual environment as to highlight the ease and comfort of the designs.
